Following the style guide is necessary so that all the pages look consistent. Our guidelines generally reflect those of Wikipedia's Manual of Style but we summarize the more important parts and note any differences here.

[edit] Page titles

  • Titles should be singular, unless they refer to a set of things
    • If the page refers to a list of things, the title should start with List of
  • Use sentence case for the page title unless the title consists of proper nouns
  • The first letter of the title should be capitalized unless it's a special case (like eBay)
  • The title of a level (or exceptionally a user) should be capitalized and spaced exactly as the level or user name. Compare Mind The Gap and Around the Bend

[edit] Body

  • Headers in the article should use sentence case (Related links, and not Related Links)
  • The first paragraph should be a general summary of the subject
  • The first reference of the subject in the article, as well as any abbreviation near the beginning of the article, should be bolded
    • Example for an article about dogs: "A dog is an animal."
    • This does not apply to pages in namespaces (Help:, etc.)
  • Wikify (make links between articles) as many things as possible, but only do it for the first mention of that particular item
  • Usernames should not be italicized
  • If the username starts with a lower case letter, then, even at the beginning of a sentence, the first letter should not be capitalized
  • See the Wikipedia Manual of Style in regards to italicizing versus adding quotation marks
