A monorail is a single track by which a vehicle rides and supports itself on. Wheels are placed on both sides of the rail and squeeze together. With sufficient friction, a vehicle can be crafted that would be able to ascend a vertical section of the track. The weight equivalent to six unpowered wheels (plus the weight of the vehicle) can be carried on such a vehicle.

The most important part of a monorail vehicle is maximizing friction between the wheels and the rail. This is achieved by squeezing the wheels together on the rail. To the left is an example of a system using a powered wheel to perform this compression. As for the rail, it can vary in its width provided that it does not exceed the height of a wheel.
