[edit] Catapults

Catapults are useful for levels where you need to toss something such as the goal object or a wheel to complete a level. They are good for changing an object's trajectory in midair, too. They can be used to beat many levels as a solution that the level creator didn't even consider.

[edit] Tanks/Cars

Tanks and cars are the simplest solutions. They are contraptions that roll and, in some cases, carry things. Treads can be added for better movement over rough terrain. Many levels that can be beaten with catapults can be beaten with tanks and cars, too. Some tanks and cars have the goal circle or square as its top part, and some are containers that allow a goal object to fall into it then move to the goal. Some others push or nudge goal objects to win. Tanks and cars can become green (the badge, not the color) if they have unpowered wheels and are going downhill.

[edit] Doubles

A double is two contraptions in one. You can have a double catapult, good for flinging two things, a double car for a balance beam. If needed, it's possible to make a catapult-car! [1]

[edit] Walkers

These odd contraptions "walk", so they are called Walkers. They are good for crossing small gaps and, with many small legs, crossing mildly rough terrain. Carefully made two-legged walkers can even cross very rough terrain. Some loosely fit under the category of tanks. [2] They can be combined in doubles, too.

[edit] Others

Other contraptions that don't fall into the above categories include glitch contraptions, claws, Monorails, Shooters and Triggers. A common double is a monorail connected to a claw, also called a claw machine. You can also create a topple machine, which throws the goal block over the front of the machine into the goal. Here is an example of a topple machine in action.-->[3]There is even a machine that shoots the ball into the goal.-->[4].
