Tick

Jump to: navigation, search

A tick is the unit of time regarding the processing of the game's physics. Thirty ticks equals one second, although this varies between computers due to different (and slower) CPU clock speeds. In each tick, the constraints of the arena are evaluated ten times in the game.

Ticks Time
30 1 second
1800 1 minute
108,000 1 hour
2,592,000 1 day
18,144,000 1 week

The slowest design that does eventually achieve victory, at present, is for Reach Up and takes 33,607,114 ticks - almost 13 days. 12/33607114 mtdewd.

The fastest design for an official level, at present, is for Higher and takes 6 ticks - 0.2 seconds. 35/6 brevven

Tick Counter

In November 2008, due to popular demand from people running contests in the forums, a tick counter was added to the program. It makes both the Lightning badge and the slowest contraption to achieve victory possible with accurate measurement.

To use the counter, whilst playing Fantastic Contraption, press the "T" key on your keyboard. This puts a counter at the very bottom right of the play area, just below the design name. As the name suggest, this counts ticks until victory is achieved. Note that one tick is one frame. On an average computer, with an non-lagy contraption, 30 ticks is about one second.

As soon as you start your contraption, it will start rolling and automatically stop when you've finished the level. This way you can tell how many ticks your contraption takes to make it to the goal.

[edit] Warning

It appears that some designs produce different tick results on different comnputers. This is not understood, however the wiki intends to record the least beneficial reproducable reported time. Normally that will be the slowest reported time for a design, for slowest records it will be the fastest time. An example of this is for Crown Jewels: 66/38418 Kojikun is also reported as 57,613 ticks.
